Question: I have a few visible varicose veins on one leg and occasional leg pain. My doctor proposes an ultrasound test, followed by laser treatment which can be done in his office. Should I try home remedies before having this done? I am thinking of weight loss, more exercise, drinking more water.
Dr. Hibberd's answer:
Yes and yes and YES. I would go ahead with the treatment, and try to minimize recurrences by toning up, weight management, and drinking plenty of water with regular exercise. If laser removal is not your bag, then ask your doctor to consider other approaches that might work.
Remember that these varicosities reflect a weakness in your veins and it is common to have others appear around the treated site because of anatomical and physical changes that have not been altered by the laser or the injection of the varicosity.
So start with these positive approaches. Home remedies are fine to try, but I have yet to see safe home remedies with laser-quality results that I can recommend to you.
