Question: I’m a man in my 70s and I’d like to know the best way to increase testosterone levels without using drugs. Is there any way to do this?
Dr. Hibberd's answer:
Your body naturally produces the hormone dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) in the adrenal gland. In turn, DHEA helps produce other hormones, including testosterone and estrogen. As you age, the levels of testosterone decrease in men. A synthetic version of DHEA is available in pill form. It's sold as a dietary supplement in the U.S, and studies have indicated that there was no benefit of taking DHEA as a supplement. DHEA does not prevent, delay or reverse age-related changes in your body. Instead, remember that there is no substitute for a healthy lifestyle. Maintain a healthy weight, eat a balanced diet, and include physical activity in your daily routine.
