Question: What can I do to reduce the swelling in my feet?
Dr. Hibberd's answer:
Swelling of our feet usually results from some factor causing poor blood circulation, resulting of pooling of fluid in our feet. Here are some common reasons:
1) A medication side effect (i.e. beta blockers and some calcium channel blockers can cause this).
2) Fluid overload (from heart or kidney failure).
3) Elevated venous system pressures (from lung disease, varicose veins, an obstruction, blood clot, cyst or mass).
4) Protein deficiency.
5) Prolonged sitting.
6) Injury and weight-management problems.
7) Endocrine, hormonal, or metabolic disorders.
8) Lymphatic system problems.
You should see a doctor to identify the cause and correct the problem.
