Question: About seven years ago I began perspiring profusely, mainly from my head. I don't even feel that warm. I'm 75, take no medication, and in good shape. What is wrong with me?
Dr. Hibberd’s answer:
Profuse sweating should always be evaluated, particularly if it comes on suddenly. It may be genetic or acquired. Common causes include hormonal imbalances, infection (including TB, HIV, fungal infections), inflammation, drug or alcohol withdrawal, anxiety, or even cancer.
Clearly there are some medical issues you need to discuss with your doctor. You should undergo a targeted evaluation to find the cause of your sweating and develop a treatment plan.
