Question: I have had several episodes of suddenly getting blurry vision. It returns to normal after a short time. What could cause this?
Dr. Hibberd's answer:
Sudden blurred vision requires a detailed eye examination. Does the blurred vision affect both eyes? Do you also see halos? Does it happen when you try to read fine print? How old are you? Are you on medications such a Lanoxin (a heart drug). Do you have diabetes or hypertension?
Depending on your answers and a detailed examination, your doctor may prescribe treatment that may vary from a medication adjustment to emergency evaluation to rule out local eye disorder such as glaucoma or retinal detachment, or may advise evaluation and treatment for other medical disorders such as diabetes, or transient ischemic attack (warning of stroke).
I suggest you do not ignore your symptom and visit your doctor as soon as possible.
