Question: I get frequent muscle spasms in my legs, stomach, and arms. I was told that I have thick blood and take aspirin for it. Is it possible this is causing it, and is there anything I can do?
Dr. Hibberd’s answer:
Leg cramps that recur are best evaluated by your physician. Calcium or electrolyte deficiencies can be a cause, and they can be corrected quickly and easily. Thick blood is not likely a cause of muscle spasms, but you should see your physician for a thyroid, chemistry, and blood screening, as well as a general physical evaluation to identify potential causes and remedies.
Some muscle spasms can be caused by disorders of metabolism, as well as by other conditions. You need to see your physician for a complete history and physical examination.
