Why Is My Throat Always Sore?

By    |   Friday, 23 May 2014 09:40 AM EDT

Question: I had my gall bladder removed a couple months ago and now have a constant sore throat (I noticed it during recovery from my surgery). Is it possible it's related to my procedure?

Dr. Hibberd's answer:

A transient sore throat or being hoarse after anesthesia with intubation is not uncommon, but is typically short-lived and clears in a few days. Continued irritation may be a sign of other problems that require further evaluation.

After a few months, you cannot reasonably blame the procedure for your symptoms. You should make an appointment with your personal physician for an evaluation.
