What's the Best Way to Quit Smoking?

By    |   Tuesday, 23 December 2014 03:47 PM EST

Question: I’ve decided to quit smoking after 20 years. Are nicotine patches, drugs or other anti-smoking medications better than simply going cold turkey?

Dr. Hibberd’s answer:

Many can go cold turkey, but most find it more comfortable to use patches, gum, or hypnosis to repress urges to resume smoking.

Many prefer to use oral pills to help with cessation, but be sure to talk with your doctor first and be on alert for side effects with other agents.
