Question: Is there a test for Parkinson’s disease?
Dr. Hibberd's answer:
There is no blood test for Parkinson's disease (yet). The diagnosis remains a clinical one based on symptoms assessed during a doctor's evaluation, sometimes along with an MRI to examine changes in the brain.
There are neuropsychological tests available that can be helpful in some cases. Therapies are improving by leaps and bounds and stem cell therapies appear promising.
If you think you have Parkinson's, see your doctor for review. If you have any questions, ask for a referral to a neurologist.
