Question: I take a lot of different medications: Plavix, Diovan, Cymbalta, Ecotrin, and Metformin. Do you see any problem with this combination?
Dr. Hibberd’s answer:
The medications you are on are usual for a type 2 hypertensive diabetic accompanied by complicated vascular disease and peripheral neuropathy, chronic pain, depression or migraine. The medications are quite commonly used together and are OK to use in combination. Why are you not also on a lipid management program to control your cholesterol? I hope you are also following a suitable diet and physical activity program, and seeing your doctor for review at least quarterly. Do not forget to have regular foot care and see your ophthalmologist at least once yearly to screen for complicating retinopathy and preventable eye conditions.
