Question: I had knee surgery 18 months ago (meniscus repair), and I healed pretty well. The pain and swelling were pretty much gone after six months. But lately the pain, swelling, and stiffness have returned. Does this mean I might need another surgery?
Dr. Hibberd's answer:
Menicus repairs can break down after surgery. It’s not unusual for pain and swelling to return after an operation.
An MRI will usually be sufficient to tell you what is going on here. Ask your personal physician to order this for you.
But you should not have an MRI if you have metal in your knee or another appliance that makes a scan impossible, such as a pacemaker.
