Question: I urinate more than most people. Is this a sign of a problem?
Dr. Hibberd’s answer:
Frequent urination can be a red flag for a bladder or kidney problem, or other health disorders. This is not a time to self-diagnose; be sure to seek professional guidance. Frequent urination can reflect simply an overabundant fluid intake or may reflect a bladder or kidney disorder, or even a more serious medical condition such as diabetes.
Too much caffeine, drug effects from weight loss agents that contain diuretics, bladder conditions (infection or malignancy), prostate conditions (infections or tumor) in men, and some forms of kidney failure are but a few conditions that can cause frequent urination and require early diagnosis.
A simple brief exam and a urinalysis is often all that is needed to rule out, or identify, any problem.
