Question: My hair is falling out due to hypothyroidism. How can I treat this?
Dr. Hibberd's answer:
The hair loss seen with hypothyroidism is corrected by replacing the deficient thyroid hormone, and will take three to six months before your hair fullness returns. Unfortunately, taking more hormone than needed won't correct the hair loss problem any quicker, but it could complicate your return to health with fatigue and other problems.
Correct dosing is essential and is determined by measurement of your ultra-sensitive TSH. Too little or too much thyroid hormone can have unpleasant effects on health and well-being, and can actually increase cardiac risks.
