Question: I am a diabetic, and recently started taking cinnamon mixed with honey to lose weight and help prevent high sugar level in my blood. Do you think taking honey as substitute for sugar is a good idea?
Dr. Hibberd's answer:
Free sugars are unwise for anyone with diabetes and honey is still an added sugar that is generally not advised for diabetics. Most diabetics should follow a no-added-sugar-diet at the very least, so honey should not be something you are consuming.
As a diabetic, you should consult with a dietitian to help in your meal planning so you can better understand the best ways to incorporate a healthy diet into your lifestyle.
