Question: I have suddenly starting feeling very fatigued. In the past I have been told I have a vitamin B-12 deficiency. Could this be the problem?
Dr. Hibberd’s answer:
Vitamin B12 deficiency will cause fatigue. If you have a documented B12 deficiency, replacement of your B12 by “sublingual” B12 — a pill placed under the tongue — may be preferable to a B12 injection. In any case, it is prudent for you to see your personal physician for a health review and appraisal before you embark on self-treatment of fatigue. If you have a B12 deficiency, a blood test could determine if you are anemic. If not, other causes should be looked for. Don’t forget that fatigue can be a symptom of underlying diseases, including heart disease, infection, cancer, and endocrine disorders such as diabetes and thyroid disorder.
