Question: I take a statin and have found that a CoQ10 supplement (100 mg) stopped my muscle aches and pains from the drug. But now I want to start running up to about 25 miles a week. Do I need more than the one capsule of CoQ10 a day to compensate for the extra exercise?
Dr. Hibberd's answer:
Probably not. CoQ10 at a dose of 50 to 100 mg one to two times a day should satisfy the needs of most people who develop aches on cholesterol-lowering statin drugs.
But you should consider changing your statin to another newer generation statin. Some people who have aches and pains while taking one statin may find that another won’t cause the same side effects.
