Question: My husband recently went to donate blood and they said his blood was clotting too fast and he couldn’t donate. Is this a problem he should get checked?

Yes. When your blood clots too quickly, it is important that you be evaluated by your physician. We see this with a number of disorders, and it can place people at risk for internal organ damage, stroke, or heart attack. Elevations and disorders of your red blood cells ( such as polycythemia), white blood cells (such as leukemia), platelets, immunoglobulins (such as myeloma, lymphoma), autoimmune disorders, and malignancy may cause rapid clotting. He should visit his doctor for an evaluation and blood testing to identify the problem.
