Question: Is it OK to take a daily baby aspirin if you are also using the blood thinner warfarin?
Dr. Hibberd's answer:
Generally baby aspirin use daily will reduce platelet function and prolong the time it takes for an effective clot to form over an injury. Warfarin also prolongs bleeding, so taking a baby aspirin with warfarin may not be a good idea for most people.
As a general rule, do not use aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories when using warfarin without a specific prescription by your doctor.
There are some cases where it makes sense to take both. For instance, it is not unusual for patients who go to the hospital for chest pain or when a heart attack is suspected to be given a dose of aspirin even though they may be taking warfarin.
