Question: I am a 89-year-old man and suffered a mild heart attack and had surgery last year. I have been taking a low-dose baby aspirin for some time. My doctor recently prescribed a blood thinner. Should I keep taking the aspirin, too?

Aspirin is a blood thinner also. I presume your doctor knows you use the aspirin. If you are not sure, give him a call, as bleeding risks are increased when aspirin is added to other blood thinners.
That said, it is not at all unusual for some patients to need this combination with the approval of their treating physicians only.
