Is it Possible I'm Allergic to Yeast?

By    |   Thursday, 07 May 2015 10:38 AM EDT

Question: Every time I eat cheese or bread, I get a sensation of burning in my mouth and on my tongue. Is that an indication of a yeast infection or allergy?

Dr. Hibberd's answer:

Your symptoms suggest a sensitivity, but I am not able to say whether this is because you have an existing irritation, allergy, or other condition that is a factor here.

It sounds like it’s time to let your doctor review your findings and conduct a full examination. Be sure to see your dentist just in case you have gingivitis or stomatitis that can be easily managed.

Oral yeast infection in adults can be a sign of immune deficiency, and is also a major criterion for the diagnosis of HIV.
