With a total cholesterol level of 128, I am proud to belong to the “150 Club.”

Although federal health guidelines consider a total cholesterol of under 200 “desirable,” that number really isn’t low enough.

A total cholesterol of 150 is what you should really be aiming for.

This magic number for lowering heart disease risk was established by Dr. William Castelli, director of the influential Framingham Heart Study, which is now, remarkably, in its 66th year.

Dr. Castelli noticed that no one in the study with a cholesterol level of less than 150 had ever suffered a heart attack.

Because the government touts under 200 as “desirable,” but doesn’t elaborate, most people believe that getting significantly under that number would be an impossible feat.

But you can do it.
