Is breakfast really the most important meal of the day, when it comes to losing weight? The answer, in a word: No.
In fact, new scientific research has thrown cold water on the standard advice of diet and fitness experts, who have long said skipping breakfast can cause weight gain. That advice, researchers say, amounts largely to a food myth.
Rigorous scientific studies have found no evidence that skipping the morning meal can lead to changes in metabolism that lead to obesity,
The New York Times reports.
One study published last month found no difference “in weight change and most health outcomes” between people who eat breakfast and those who skip it.
“Whether or not you have breakfast in itself is not going to impact your body weight,” said James Betts, an author of the study and an associate professor of nutrition and metabolism at the University of Bath in England.
