You already know what foods are good for you — fruit, vegetables, whole grains. But the Center for Science in the Public Interest has come up with a list of those you should avoid.
The watchdog group has released its eighth annual list of "Xtreme Eating" meals, a summary of the highest-calorie, highest-fat, highest-sodium meals at chain restaurants across the United States.
“When we were screening candidates for the first Xtreme Eating awards in 2007, we were shocked to see 1,500-calorie entrées,” the report’s authors noted. ”This year, nearly all of our ‘winners’ hit (or just missed) the 2,000-calorie mark. And a few doozies topped 3,000 calories. You could take half home and still overeat.”
The organization singled out The Cheesecake Factory, which took several of the CSPI’s top spots.
Here’s a breakdown of the “winners.”
- IHOP Chorizo Fiesta Omelette —1,990 calories, 42 grams of saturated fat, 4,840 milligrams of sodium, and 1,035 mg of cholesterol, plus 12 or so teaspoons of added sugar.
- Dickey’s Barbecue Pit’s 3 Meat Plate — 2,500 calories, 49 grams of saturated fat, 4,700 milligrams of sodium, and 29 teaspoons of sugar.
- Outback Steakhouse’s Herb Roasted Prime Rib Dinner —2,400 calories, 71 grams of saturated fat, and 3,560 milligrams of sodium.
- The Cheesecake Factory’s Louisiana Chicken Pasta — 2,370 calories, 80 grams of saturated fat, and 2,370 milligrams of sodium.
- Sonic’s Pineapple Upside Down Master Blast — 2,020 calories, 61 grams of saturated fat, 41/2 grams of trans fat, and 29 teaspoons of added sugar.
- Red Lobster’s Create Your Own Combination — 2,710 calories, 37 grams of saturated fat, and 6,530 milligrams of sodium.
- Uno Pizzeria & Grill’s 2 For $12 Pick & Choose Menu — 2,190 calories, 49 grams of saturated fat, and 5,420 milligrams of sodium.
- Steak ‘n Shake’s 7x7 Steakburger ‘n Fries — 1,570 calories, 47 grams of saturated fat, and 4,570 milligrams of sodium.
- The Cheesecake Factory’s Warm Apple Crisp — 1,740 calories, 48 grams of saturated fat, and 32 teaspoons of sugar.
