Donald Trump refutes Megyn Kelly's assertion that he tried to get on her good side right before he launched his GOP presidential bid, dismissing the Fox News host as "the last person in the world I would try to woo."
In an interview with
The Hill, the real estate billionaire also said he doubted Kelly could be fair as a moderator in the next Fox News-sponsored GOP debate – a role she also played in the first GOP candidates' debate Aug. 6 that ignited their contentious feud.
"I'm not sure she can be fair and balanced because she has a thing with Donald Trump," he tells The Hill, predicting "I don't think we will" get along any better during the Jan. 28 Fox News-sponsored GOP face-off in Iowa.
He was equally affronted by "The Kelly File" host's remarks in a
Vanity Fair interview, where she said Trump – before he announced his candidacy – had sent her signed news clippings about her, and called to compliment her on TV segments.
"I didn't know why he was doing that," Kelly tells Vanity Fair. "And then when he announced he was running for president, it became more clear. But I can't be wooed. I was never going to love him, and I was never going to hate him."
Trump told The Hill "the last person in the world I would try to woo is Megyn Kelly."
If the next debate reignites fireworks between the pair, it won't come as a surprise.
After the Aug. 6 debate – in which Kelly pressed Trump about his remarks about women – Trump lashed back, complaining she had "blood coming out of her wherever." He reportedly
made amends during a reported phone call with Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes.
But the
feud wasn't over; Trump took to Twitter in October to complain about Kelly's coverage, and then insulted her "math" capabilities in December when she reported on polling results, calling her "the most overrated anchor at Fox News."
