In an attempt to revive his struggling Florida campaign team, Donald Trump replaced Karen Giorno with veteran political consultant Susie Wiles, Politico reports.
Giorno, who is now moving to New York, will take charge as chairman of the Donald Trump Coalitions. Her new role will involve monitoring outreach to various groups including women, veterans and evangelicals.
Expressing full faith in Wiles, who is credited for Gov. Rick Scott's first winning campaign in 2010, Giorno said, "Susie Wiles is a winner. She knows how to win."
The shuffle was an expected one, as most Florida Republicans were upset that Giorno wasn't doing enough in comparison to Hillary Clinton's campaign, which was blossoming with a growing number of field offices.
Giorno ruled out all criticism about the shake up, pointing out that Trump is almost at par with Clinton in the most recent statewide polls.
"I won't sugar coat it. I've had serious but professional disagreements with some colleagues about what offices should be open and how they should be rolled out. But there's nothing nefarious here," Giorno was quoted as saying.
She also clarified that there was "bureaucratic red tape in getting leases signed and getting money" which resulted in the poor progress of Trump's campaign team.
Though some of the field offices have already opened this week, formal announcements are likely to be made during the "super Saturday" events this weekend.
About 25 of them are expected to be functioning by mid-September, the report stated.
Meanwhile, Wiles too downplayed the comparison with the Clinton campaign.
Regarding the sudden move from the communications team in New York to Florida, Wiles said, "As much as I liked being in New York at headquarters, the campaign dictated that the best use of my talents was in Florida.
"I'm looking forward to making Donald Trump the next president of the United States," she added.
