Rick Santorum on Rival Ted Cruz: 'Very Divisive'

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum told Newsmax TV on Tuesday that he targeted rival Ted Cruz in his recent television ad because the Texas senator has "a pretty-strong record of not accomplishing things and being very divisive."

"I don't think we need more of that in Washington," the former Pennsylvania senator told "The Steve Malzberg Show" in an interview. "What we need is someone who's a fighter, but someone who can bring people together and accomplish something to get this country going."

He said he singled out Cruz because of his 2013 speech on the Senate floor against Obamacare that lasted nearly 22 hours.

Other senators had led the fight to repeal the healthcare plan — and the House is expected to vote on the issue this week.

"The filibuster of Obamacare was a failed strategy that elevated one person and threw everybody else under the bus," Santorum told Malzberg. "Here's what divisive leadership is that accomplishes nothing — and here's what real leadership is that can make us safe."
