Priebus: Obama's Promises Add Up to '58 Trillion Dimes'

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus told Newsmax that President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address reflected a president “who just doesn’t seem to come across as serious.”

“The problem for our country is that our president is not very good at following through on the promises he makes,” Priebus said. “Our country is anxious for a president who is getting serious about delivering on the promises he makes.”

Referring to Obama’s remark that “nothing I'm proposing tonight should increase our deficit by a single dime,” Priebus said that the RNC has posted a video on its website listing previous programs that the president said would not add to the federal deficit.

“That’s 58 trillion dimes,” Priebus said. “That’s a lot of dimes for a lot of broken promises.”

He attacked Obama’s plan to raise the minimum wage to $9 a hour, saying it would spur inflation and kill jobs.

“It’s going to cost jobs. Why not just raise it to twelve dollars an hour? Why stop at just nine dollars an hour?” Priebus asked. “It’s not good economics.

“There’s the universe of making good speeches — and there’s the universe of following though,” he added. “It’s leading and following through that this president can’t do.”
