Real estate developer and GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump is trying to get his real estate taxes on a Westchester County, New York golf club dropped by 90 percent, leaving residents stuck with the bill,
Lohud.com reports.
If Trump is successful, the property taxes for Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff Manor would drop from $471, 000 to $47,000, the website reported. School taxes for the 140-acre property would drop from $287,000 to $32,000.
Neighbors would have to pick up the tab for the $424,000 in savings.
"He's going to pass the tax burden on to everybody else," Ossining Receiver of Taxes Gloria Fried told the website. "And we still won’t get to play on his golf course."
"It makes no sense to me for any of us to subsidize a billionaire so he can enjoy even more profits at that property," said former county Legislator Richard Wishnie, of Briarcliff Manor.
Jeff Rodner, attorney for Trump National says the property is currently worth only $1.4 million. According to Lohud, the club includes an 18-hole championship course and 75,000-square foot clubhouse with five overnight suites as well as approval to build 71 condominiums.
The property was valued at $35 million after Trump bought it a decade ago, but the value was cut to $13.5 million after the economic downturn of 2008.
Many developers told the website they believe the property to be worth far more than Trump is claiming.
