Terrorism Expert: Boston Could Be 'Trial Run'

An expert in the field of terrorism has speculated that the bombings in Boston Monday could possibly be a trial run for a larger attack, USA Today reports.

Morris Taylor, Terrorism Expert with South Illinois University in Edwardsville, suggested that the attacks are possibly a rehearsal for another, more devastating incident on the scale of Oklahoma City or 9/11.

“Interestingly, this type of action, while it was not the magnitude of Oklahoma City or 9/11, given the symbolic nature of Patriot Day, (the) Boston Marathon, all the participants there, (was) perfect for, in some degree, maybe even a trial run,” Taylor said.

“At least, theoretically, it could be one.”

Taylor said whoever committed the attacks “planned them rather well.”

He also compared the execution of the bombings to the attacks on World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, in that “the first bomb that exploded, followed shortly by the second bomb, very similar to what you saw in 9/11 with the first plane that went into the building…and the second plane that swung into the building.”
