Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders says he wants businessman Donald Trump to win the Republican presidential nomination so he can face him in the general election.
"Frankly, I'm prejudiced, I want Trump to win the Republican nomination," Sanders said during a CNN Democratic presidential forum in New Hampshire Wednesday night. "And I would love the opportunity to run against him. I think we would win by a lot."
Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist, isn't a big fan of the billionaire real-estate mogul, slamming him for his statements on Mexicans, Muslims and global warming. But it's Trump's ideas on the economy that really get under his skin.
"This country has millions of people struggling economically," Sanders said. "I believe we should raise the minimum wage to 15 bucks an hour over the next couple of years. … Trump in a Republican debate said wages are too high in America! Really? Too high in America?"
Trump responded via Twitter, saying that Sanders is saying he wants to run against him only because he really doesn't.
