Bridesmaids Spend $1,695 Per Wedding

Friday, 01 July 2011 12:50 PM EDT

Being asked to be a bridesmaid in a friend’s wedding is an exciting honor. But, that honor doesn’t come without a price. Based on a survey of 20,000 U.S. brides, it costs an average of $1,695 just to be a bridesmaid, reports the Daily Mail.

WeddingChannel.com issued the survey to determine what effect the rising cost of weddings was having on wedding party members. And as it turns out, traveling to the wedding, hotel accommodations, and bachelorette party expenses add up quickly. Plus, many bridesmaids must buy their own dress in addition to a separate wedding gift.

WeddingChannel.com associate editor Amy Eisinger told CNN that a lot of brides simply don’t realize the snowballing costs for their close girlfriends. “From the moment they announce the engagement, to the day your friends walks down the aisle, you don’t realize that you’ve spent $1,600.”
