What Conditions Vitamin B5 Helps

Wednesday, 10 November 2010 10:57 AM EST

Pantothenic acid is commonly known as vitamin B5. This water-soluble vitamin is essential for human health and aids the biosynthesis of fat, carbohydrates, and proteins. Whole grains, meat, legumes, eggs, and broccoli contain large amounts of vitamin B5.

Deficiency Symptoms
:
Deficiency can lead to health issues such as muscle cramps, fatigue, hypoglycemia, stress, irritability, and insomnia, among others.

Anti-Stress
Vitamin B5 is used to relieve stress. This vitamin is useful for cortisone secretion, and steroid hormones.

Anti-ageing
Several cosmetic products also include vitamin B5 supplements; research claims this vitamin fights ageing and grey hair.

Anti acne
Research has established its role in reducing acne and pore size when used as a topical cream or ingested.

Preserving Vitamin B5 in food
While cooking vitamin B5 rich foods, it is important not to add soda to the water, since the addition will destroy the water-soluble pantothenic acid. Similarly, canning, roasting, and milling causes the loss of vitamin B5 from most food.

Water-soluble vitamins like vitamin B5 need to be replenished on a regular basis as they are regularly eliminated by the body through urine.
