Tuatara: World's Fastest Car

Tuesday, 19 July 2011 01:49 PM EDT

Shebly SuperCars is set to reclaim its title as the manufacturer of the world’s fastest car with the introduction of the Tuatara, Fox News reports.

“The name Tuatara was inspired by a modern day New Zealand reptile that bears the same name. A direct descendent of the dinosaur, this reptile's name translated from the Maori language means 'peaks on the back,' which is quite fitting, given the winglets on the back of the new car,” said Jerod Shelby, founder of SSC.

The egine will be a twin-turbocharged 7.0 liter V-8 that can reach upwards of 1350 horsepower. The top speed is expected to be 275 mph, 7mph over the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, currently the world’s fastest car.

If the speed is not enough to make your jaw drop then the price will. SSC expects the Tuatara to come in at around $900,000.
