Epilepsy treatments are intended to control the severity and incidence of epilepsy symptoms. Epilepsy is a neurological condition, and most of the classic drugs used for its treatment include, but are not limited to, seizure medications like Dilantin, Phenobarbital, Primidone, Ethosuximide, Felbamate, Tiagabine, Gabapentin, Topiramate, Carbamazepine, Zonisamide, and tranquilizers like Clorazepate, Diazepam, and Clonazepam.
There are different treatments for various types of epilepsy. Though epilepsy types vary, the seizure medications used for treating epilepsy are more or less the same in around 70% of patients. Appropriate drugs need to be administered to control and address specific epilepsy symptoms. Epilepsy medication is prescribed by considering many factors that are patient-specific and some of these include the patient’s tolerance to the side effects of the seizure medications and the accepted method of delivery while treating epilepsy.
For relatively mild symptoms of epilepsy, a ketogenic diet is considered to be highly effective. It is a noninvasive form of controlling all epilepsy symptoms without resorting to the use of epilepsy medication.
