Spas are gaining popularity throughout the world as travelers seek relief from hectic lifestyles and rising healthcare costs.

The global spa market is expected to increase by 8.7 percent over the next five years, according to a report released in April by market research firm Technavio. Europe, in particular, is a coveted destination for many seeking spa vacations.

Here are eight of the best spas in Europe.

1. Grand Hotel Tremezzo — Italy has plenty of choices for travelers seeking a spa vacation, with 10 of the country's hotel's making The Telegraph's list of "best hotels for spa breaks in Europe." Grand Hotel Tremezzo in Lake Como, Italy, tops the list. The hotel's T Spa features a heated indoor infinity pool with five hydro-massage areas, an attached outdoor whirlpool tub, and a panoramic relaxation lounge. Services include traditional Hammam treatments, facials, and foot and leg massages with hot stones.

2. Guerlain Spa
— Located in the French Alps, Hotel Cheval Blanc offers access to stunning snowcapped vistas, 165 ski lifts, fine dining, and designer shopping. Its Guerlain Spa contributes to the seamless service that has earned the hotel a reputation among many as "the jewel of the Alps," The Telegraph noted.

3. EF MedispaEuropean Spa magazine listed this London medical spa among its "spas to watch." Opened in 2006, EF Medispa offers a wide array of treatments, including laser-lipo, cosmetic injections, peels, hi-tech facials, and body shaping, provided by medical professionals.

4. Raffles Istanbul — Located on the European side of Istanbul, Turkey, Raffles Istanbul incorporates rich history and a cosmopolitan flair, according to European Spa magazine. This spa is located in the heart of the city's new Zorlu Center and features three Turkish baths, or hammams; separate male and female relaxation areas; saunas; steam rooms; Jacuzzis; pools; ice fountains; and an outdoor pool with panoramic views of the city.

5. Clinique la Prairie — Clarens-Montreux, Switzerland, is home to Clinique la Prairie, one of Europe's finest luxury spas, according to CNN Travel. Medical services offered at the spa range from orthopedic and cosmetic surgery to cardiology and dental care, and Clinique la Prairie also boasts one of the best menopause centers in Europe, CNN said.

6. Espa Spa — "The most glamorous spa in the British Isles," according to CNN, Espa Spa is located in Gleneagles in Perthshire, Scotland. Nestled among three world-renowned golf courses, the spa offers more than 60 therapies, and recently added services including naturopathy, physiotherapy, fitness assessment, nutrition, and acupuncture.

7. Terme di Saturnia — Those looking for a hot springs spa should take note of Terme di Saturnia in Tuscany, Italy. Fodor's Travel listed it among Europe's best hot springs spas, noting that the sulfur springs include a waterfall and a massive travertine pool. Visitors to the spa complex can take part in massages, mud packs, and steam inhalation therapy.

8. Therme Erding — Located near Munich, Germany, Therme Erding is another highly regarded European hot springs spa on Fodor's list. It features themed pools, saunas, solariums, and lounges. The spa includes separate sections for adults and families and offers pool parties and wintertime hot waterslides.
