The final space shuttle launch for the NASA space program is scheduled for this afternoon with crew members already on board the space craft, reports
VOA News.
The Atlantis lift-off has attracted close to 1 million people, and is scheduled to launch at 11:26 a.m. EST, weather permitting. If inclement weather rolls in, the launch will be delayed until Saturday or Sunday.
The crew will consist of four members who will deliver supplies, spare parts, and science experiments to the International Space Station on a mission lasting 12 days.
NASA will be concentrating its efforts on deep-space exploration after the shuttle program has ended.
