Difference Between Psoriasis and Eczema

Wednesday, 29 June 2011 04:07 PM EDT

Psoriasis and eczema are often confused since both diseases can cause red, scaly skin plaques. However, close scrutiny of your symptoms makes it possible to distinguish the diseases from one another.

Psoriasis lesions are typically very thick and dry, whereas, eczema lesions tend to be moist and sometimes even ooze.

Psoriasis also tends to appear on the outside of joints (i.e. backs of elbows and front of knees). Eczema, prefers the inside arms and backs of the knees.

Despite these distinctions, it is still imperative to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis if you suspect either of the two skin diseases. This will allow for the most effective medical treatment to be prescribed.
