Should I Eat Organic Food?

Monday, 20 June 2011 03:33 PM EDT

Why eat organic foods?

Organic foods involve minimal processing and therefore retain more nutrients and fiber than conventionally processed foods. The production of organic foods involves fewer artificial ingredients and no chemical ripening, food irradiation, or genetically modified ingredients.

Research has shown that organic foods are much richer in micronutrients and mineral content. Organic foods are more able to give your body what it needs to stay healthy.

Benefits of organic foods:

• Because harmful chemicals and pesticides are not used in organic farming, eating “certified organic” foods helps to stave off allergies, growth problems, and asthma.
• In addition to taste and natural sweetness, the texture, firmness, and nutrient content of organic fruits and veggies is superior to those of non-organic produce.
• Organic foods help save the environment. Farming only organic products yields sustainable soil and a healthier ecosystem.

Organic foods are free of the potentially harmful chemicals and pesticides present in processed foods.
