Fast-food worker protests in Chicago have put the city at the forefront of a nationwide movement to raise the minimum wage. While efforts to raise Chicago's minimum wage to $15 per hour did not come to fruition, Chicago did increase the minimum wage to $10 per hour with scheduled raises set to take place until 2019 adding up to $13 per hour.

Illinois Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner has talked about raising Illinois' minimum wage from $8.25 to $10 per hour in $.25 annual increments, which was met with little enthusiasm.
