For a long time, the only available treatment for leukemia, cancer of the blood or bone marrow, was either chemotherapy, drugs, or a combination of both. But today there are many other leukemia treatments that are more natural and less invasive when compared to radiation therapy.
Some of these leukemia alternatives include herbal and natural foods that are rich in antioxidants and vitamins. By providing the body with the nutrition it needs from natural sources, these natural supplements provide an alternative solution to leukemia treatment.
Extracts of herbs such as rosemary may produce positive results in leukemia patients. Apart from herbs, natural beverages like green tea and caffeine that are rich in antioxidants are good anti-leukemia supplements. Many vegetables contain flavanoids, which are natural antioxidants. Antioxidants reduce and control the total amount of reactive oxygen, reactive nitrogen, and free radicals in the body, which may have a positive effect on leukemia patients.
Eating lean meat, beans, tofu, soy, and freshwater fish is advised instead of eating red meat alone. Processed foods that contain high levels of fat and cholesterol like white flour, pasta, and sugary foods must be strictly avoided.
Although these foods may be beneficial, they cannot be considered foods that might potentially cure leukemia. They are being studied and researched only as supplements. Treatment of leukemia should also address nutritional deficiencies, if any, in the form of either probiotic supplements, cod liver oil that contains healthy omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin C, multivitamin capsules of vitamin B complex, mushrooms, olive leaves, and dried fruits of the milk thistle herb.
