4 Best Foods You Can Eat for Leukemia Cancer

By    |   Monday, 20 June 2016 03:50 PM EDT

A diagnosis of leukemia or any cancer can evoke many emotions and stir up fears never experienced before. In addition, cancer treatments can cause unpleasant side effects and the cancer itself can cause frightening and painful symptoms.

Having cancer requires major life changes, especially with diet. Some foods can actually encourage cancer cell growth and cause symptom exacerbation while other foods can minimize symptoms and decrease cancer cell growth.

Warning: Antibiotics Not a Solution, Use This First

According to Everyday Health, when dealing with leukemia cancer, the following four types of food are best to consume to potentially promote healing and wellness:

Fruits and vegetables
Fruits and vegetables are great sources of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytochemicals that potentially fight cancer cells. Professionals recommend eating 10 fruits and vegetables daily, if possible.

Steamed vegetables
Steaming vegetables is the best process for extracting nutrients from vegetables such as peppers, broccoli, mushrooms, carrots, cauliflower, zucchini, and sweet peas. In addition, soup made from spinach, kale, and mustard greens can offer great support to your health, as well as low-sodium vegetable juice.

Whole grains
Foods that offer 100 percent whole grains such as brown rice, cereal, and quinoa provide large amounts of nutrients compared to refined grains.

Protein
Protein may offer relief from nausea and vomiting caused by leukemia chemotherapy treatments. Protein can also strengthen the body and fend off weakness caused by chemotherapy.

Doctor: Antibiotics Do More Harm Than Good – Boost Your Immune System

The University of Maryland Medical Center recommends avoiding the following foods as they can interfere with treatment or encourage cancer cell growth:

• Dairy products
• Wheat (gluten)
• Corn
• Soy
• Food additives
• Fried foods
• Refined foods (white bread, pasta, white rice, and sugar)
• Trans fatty acids commonly found in processed foods
• Coffee, tobacco, alcohol, and other stimulants

Medical professionals recommend using healthy oils for cooking, drinking six to eight glasses of water every day, and engaging in light exercise in the battle against leukemia or any cancer.
