The final installment of the Harry Potter saga brought in a staggering $168.5 million over the weekend to set the new record for highest grossing opening of all time,
MTV reports.
The previous record was held by “The Dark Knight.”
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” was also the largest opening day earner of all time with $92.1 million in the United States and became the largest opening for a film in Australia, Italy, Sweden, Norway, the UK, Brazil, Japan, and seven other nations.
Author Rowling’s final installment is likely to become the first Potter film to cross the $1 billion mark, a feat only eight other films have accomplished.
Potter became the fastest movie ever to gross $150 million and now has a total worldwide gross of $475,000,000.
