Vote Here: Is the US Trade Embargo With Cuba Good or Bad?

Yoani Sánchez is arguably the most well-known Cuban blogger. She speaks out against the Cuban government and shares facts about life in Cuba through her blog, Twitter account, and published articles while teaming up with her husband and fellow writer-activist Reinaldo Escobar.

Due to her candid disapproval of the Cuban government, Sánchez was prohibited from leaving Cuba for many years after she returned home from two years in Switzerland.

Vote Now: Should the US End the Embargo Against Cuba?

Here are three facts about the outspoken Cuban blogger:

1. Posting problems
Sánchez launched her blog, Generación Y, in 2008. In 2008, it was blocked by the Cuban government, so she sends blog posts to friends via email and they post them for her, says the International Journalists' Network.

2. Time's 100 Most Influential
In 2008, Sánchez was placed on the Time 100 list comprised of "the world's most influential people: leaders, thinkers, heroes, artists, scientists, and more." "Under the nose of a regime that has never tolerated dissent, Sánchez has practiced what paper-bound journalists in her country cannot: freedom of speech," Time said about the Cuban blogger. "The pieces she has been clandestinely sending out from Internet cafés – while posing as a tourist – are often funny, elegantly written and poignant. Her subjects have included the shortage of lemons, the turgid proceedings of the Cuban parliament and the slowness of meaningful reforms by Raúl Castro."

3. Twitter pro
Sánchez also has a Twitter account where she has amassed nearly 700,000 followers and somehow tweets quite regularly, with many tweets going out practically every day. Many of these tweets revolve around politics. Sanchez's Twitter bio reads: "Philologist and #periodista, I live in my reality #Habana and story in 140 characters via #Twitter. I love the #literatura #Cuba the #periodismo and # technology."
