The average salary of a Wisconsin police officer varied widely depending on the location of the police department within Wisconsin.

The U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics reported in May 2014 that average annual salaries of police and sheriff's patrol officers of the areas in and around Wisconsin were as follows:

Tell Us: Does Racism Play a Role in Police Officers' Actions?
  • Appleton, Wisconsin, $52,540

  • Northern Wisconsin nonmetropolitan area, $45,380
The BLS calculated the above annual salary figures by "by multiplying the hourly mean wage by 2,080 hours."

Despite the mostly median salaries of police officers in the Badger State, the Wisconsin Professional Police Association endorsed gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke in September 2014. WPPA executive director Jim Palmer blamed Gov. Scott Walker for an increase in violent crimes.

"Under Scott Walker, not only has Wisconsin trailed its neighbors in creating jobs, but in combating violent crime as well," Palmer told reporters. "The crime data shows that Wisconsin has become less safe than it was when Scott Walker took office. And we can no longer afford his brand of failed leadership."
