Gun Ranges in Wisconsin: 6 Spots for Firearms and Pistol Practice

By    |   Tuesday, 24 February 2015 10:32 AM

Wisconsin ranked number 26 in a 2014 list of the best states for gun owners compiled by Guns and Ammo. America's Dairyland "was one of the last states to enact a concealed carry statute, but passed a very good law — it not only allows for concealed carry, it also strengthens the ability for citizens to carry openly." Fun and exciting gun ranges are available for firearm enthusiasts of all skill levels.

Here are six spots for firearm and pistol practice in the state of Wisconsin:

1. Family Shooting Academy: Located in Green Bay, this facility has 15 shooting lanes at 25 yards long for handguns and rifles up to .308. A computer controlled target system and custom-built targeting allows users to select their own distance.

"I've been here only twice, both as a guest," writes a reviewer on Google. "This facility is top notch for sure. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I'll have to give membership some thought."

2. Fletcher Arms: Located in Waukesha, this indoor range allows most pistol calibers and rifles in rim fire. Children aged 12 to 17 shoot for free when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Gun rentals are available and the shop includes firearms and accessories.

"This is my go-to place in the greater Milwaukee area for an indoor range," writes a reviewer on Facebook. "Have purchased from them also, and they never treat you like a noob — even if you are. Keep up the great work!"

3. McMiller Sports Center: The center is open to the public for pistol, rifle and shotgun opportunities. Located in Eagle, ranges include 25, 50, 100, 200 and 300 yards. Trap and sporting clays are also available.

"The staff here are extremely helpful and friendly," writes a reviewer on Yelp. "I felt safe on the range and had a positive experience talking with the range masters. They were very busy but still able to accommodate my family and get us seats together on the 50/100 yard ranges."

4. North Bristol Sportsman's Club: Located in North Bristol, families and groups of all ages are welcome at the club. Facilities include a 50-meter pistol range, 200-meter rifle range, a skeet/trap field, four trap fields and an archery target range.

5. Deerfield Pistol and Archery Center: A full-service pistol and archery range is available for walk-in shooters. Located in Deerfield, this pistol range has five 65-foot lanes with high-speed target positioning and a retrieval system. Firearm rentals are available and there is a firearms shop with handguns and long guns.

“The range is small but well-kept and well ventilated,” according to a Yelp reviewer. “The lighting is pretty good and the electrically operated target carrier works well.”

6. Milford Hills: Located in Johnson Cree, this shooting facility is open to the public to use pistols, rifles, sporting clays and a 3D archery range. The pistol and rifle range is 100 yards.

"Excellent facility," writes a reviewer on Yellow Pages. "Friendly people on staff. Reasonable prices on shooting activities, great prices on guns."
