Tropical Storm Could Drench Republican Convention

By    |   Tuesday, 21 August 2012 11:20 AM EDT

A tropical storm brewing in the Atlantic could dump some serious rain on the GOP parade.

The ninth tropical depression of the Atlantic hurricane season formed Tuesday and could build into Tropical Storm – and possibly Hurricane – Isaac. Forecast models show the storm could hit the Tampa-St. Petersburg area next Monday, just as the Republican National Convention kicks off.

The National Hurricane Center said it’s too way soon to know what the storm will do, even if it does develop into a full-fledged hurricane.

“In the 5-7 period and beyond, weather details become fairly unpredictable,” tropical weather specialist Brian McNoldly told The Washington Post.
