Christmas Brings Plenty of Pork for Congress

Christmas is coming, and budgets are getting fat. Whether you've just started your holiday shopping or already finished it, lots of politicians in Washington want to spend more of your hard-earned money this season in their home states.

Yep, earmarks — much decried, much reviled — are back in a big way, with a record $8 billion in requests packed into the massive, $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill.

It's proof, as though we needed any more, that despite the outrage outside of Washington, this Democratic-controlled Congress just can't stop spending. No wonder, according to a brand new Gallup poll, a record low 13 percent of the public approves of the job Congress is doing.
