Oprah Winfrey is donating $500,000 to the March for Our Lives, a rally organized by students to push for stricter gun control following the shooting deaths of 17 people at a South Florida high school.

Winfrey’s decision to pledge the money to the March 24 demonstration in Washington, D.C came after George Clooney and his wife Amal announced they had donated $500,000, Variety reported.

The longtime talk show host announced her donation in a Twitter post on Tuesday evening.

The rally is being planned by five students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

The school was the scene of a tragic shooting spree last week. Nikolas Cruz, 19, was charged with the premeditated deaths of 17 people.

Movie director Steven Spielberg and his wife, Kate Capshaw are also kicking in $500,000 to the planned demonstration, according to Deadline.

“Kate and I applaud their efforts to take a stand for the benefit of this and future generations,” Spielberg said. “They are an inspiration to us all, and we are joining in this movement with a donation of $500,000.”

Jeffrey Katzenberg, who formerly helmed Walt Disney Studios, has also pledged $500,000.
