Actress Diane Neal, former star of the TV series "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit," announced she will for Congress as an independent.

Neal, seeking the New York seat currently held by Republican John Faso, made the announcement Tuesday on Twitter:

Neal played prosecutor "Casey Novak" in the long-running crime drama, appearing in more than 100 episodes.

Neal will need 3,500 signatures to appear on the ballot as an independent.

There are also six Democrats lined up to take on Faso, who was just elected in 2016.
