Republicans plan to use the $1.5 trillion in tax cuts as a selling point in the 2018 midterm elections, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Republicans welcomed private polling information at a closed-door meeting that showed their favorability ratings were on the upswing the month after the tax law took effect, the newspaper reported.
On Wednesday, President Donald Trump said Republicans could take advantage of a comment from House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., where she said bonuses that companies handed out because of the tax legislation were "crumbs."
The Republicans' Wi-Fi password at the retreat is "ThanksForTheTaxCut!$," The Journal reported.
"You would be hard-pressed to find signs that are pointing in a Republican direction for November with the huge exception of the growth in the economy that we've seen," said Marquette University polling expert Charles Franklin, The Journal reported.
"That remains the Republicans' best friend — the state of the economy, whether it's real income growth or real gross domestic product growth — are the two things that we've seen consistently linked to the voting," Franklin added.
The Tax Policy Center reported that 80 percent of American households would see tax cuts this year, with larger cuts going to wealthier households. The share of households that get cuts will decline in later years, the report said.
Republicans are facing challenging midterms in the House of Representatives. Democrats would need to gain 24 seats to win a majority, The Journal reported on Monday.
Democrats are saying the tax cuts have a downside.
"The Trump tax law drains the middle class dry to shower the richest individuals and corporations with cash," said Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., in The Journal.
